Israel Responds Big to the Palestinian Terrorist Attacks

Palestinian terrorists/Hamas chose terror over peace when their truce with Israel expired a little over a week ago. Israel chose to defend it’s people.

I wrote just yesterday that the leaders of Israel were very clear on their insistence that the terrorist attacks end. They didn’t. Of course now the rhetoric will begin about proportionate responses. The goal of any response shouldn’t be tit for tat, it should be to discourage the other side from continued violence. Therefore, since Israel is still living with these frequent attacks, their response has apparently not been strong enough in the past. Those who judge Israel should try putting themselves in their shoes.

Quotes on the Israeli response to the Palestinian terror attacks:

“There is a time for calm and a time for fighting, and now the time has come to fight.” — Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak

“We tried everything to achieve calm without using force… There is no other option but to strike, to protect the people of Israel from terrorists. Israel withdrew from Gaza to give peace a chance, but instead terror organizations have overrun it.” — Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni

“The lives of Israelis are not forfeit, and Israel will not hesitate to respond to any acts of aggression against it. The quiet we offered was answered with mayhem.” — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert

“Today is a time for unity. If our enemies thought we would not be united under their rocket-fire they were wrong. We will send a message to our enemies and to the entire world that Israel will bring back security to its citizens.” — Benjamin Netanyahu

“Hamas’ continued rocket attacks into Israel must cease if the violence is to stop.” — White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe

The Islamist group Hamas won a 2006 parliamentary election, but refused to renounce violence and recognize Israel’s right to exist. Their refusal to continue the truce was evidence enough of their lack of desire for peace with Israel. Their attacks soon after confirm their belief in violence as their preferred way of coexisting. Israel’s response in the Hamas led Gaza Strip is an effort to discourage the endless acts of terrorism on it’s people.
