Inauguration Racism by Reverend Wright Light: Joseph Lowery

Barack Obama might as well have had Jeremiah Wright deliver the benediction. Some people can’t get along no matter what happens. On a day celebrating the first “black” President, Reverend Joseph Lowery delivered the inaugural ceremony’s benediction which included racist remarks:

“We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right.”

I guess if you are white or asian you can’t hide your racist ways no matter what you do. I don’t know if Barack Obama approved of that message, but I don’t. People need to get up to speed with the times and at least agree that America as a whole is not racist. To say otherwise would be to say Barack Obama did not legitimately win the Presidency.

Barack Obama also had gay Bishop Eugene Robinson give a prayer. I always have doubts when a Christian promotes homosexuality as the Bible so strongly rejects that. I wonder why they would want to preach things counter to the Bible they believe in. In Robinson’s case, you would never know he was a Christian, since he did not mention the God of the Bible. In fact he said: “every religion’s God judges us by the way we care…” Amazing.

I hate to say it, but Barack Obama is off to a bad start. The most expensive inauguration in history. The largest carbon footprint in inauguration history. now, with these so called Christians, you can top it off with what I feel is borderline blasphemy, if there can be such a thing. Can these things all be a coincidence? It is amazing how some people can’t let go of the past, except when it comes to the real things that America was founded on. That they can let go of very easily.

At first, I was shocked by his benediction too. Racist! I cried. As it turns out, Rev. Lowery was reversing an old saying:

    “If you’re white, you’re alright
    If you’re brown, stick around
    If you’re yellow, you’re mellow
But if you’re black, get back”.

In this context, I don’t believe Rev. Lowery was trying to slam whites as much as trying to uplift blacks. Blacks don’t need to get in the back any longer now that one of their own is the president.

I really think it was the wrong time and place for it though.

Interesting how all are getting on the band wagon calling him african american, since President Obama is mixed race and not black.

It’s a new era. Let’s all drop the race thing, be responsible for ourselves and family.

Regardless of intent, this may be the most racist thing ever said at an inauguration. I can’t imagine if Pastor Warren abused his privilege to say something like that about blacks or homosexuals. Digging up old wounds only stirs up hatred.

It was a blatantly racist comment. It also ignores the fact that Obama would not have had a chance in hell of winning the presidency if large numbers of whites had not voted for him. Or was there, perhaps, a hidden meaning in Lowery’s comment? Obama won precisely because whites did NOT do what was right!
