Global warming where did you go? More evidence that it was all exaggerated as 2008 looks to be the coldest in a decade. Yet when this kind of information comes out they usually discount it as not being evidence against the warming of the planet. A hot day is evidence of global warming, but a cold year is not evidence of global cooling or even evidence against warming. Ugh. They did the same thing with hurricanes – a lot of hurricanes meant global warming and below average means let’s call it “climate change” or at least change the subject.
I am sure that the scandalous mess-up was an accident when the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies didn’t count a cold October in their stats and instead counted twice the warm month of September. They had reported that October was the hottest ever recorded, instead of a month that was actually below average. It seems incomprehensible that mistakes like that could be made, and it is odd that it falls in the favor for those pushing the global warming scare. People like Dr. James Hansen at this NASA division are the ones pushing the hype. One thing that seems to remain constant is the suppressing of opposing opinion on the subject. Note: (Bloggers Anthony Watts, an American meteorologist, and Steve McIntyre, a Canadian computer analyst, caught the mistake.)
It only takes a few “accidental” changes in the daily temperatures to alter what is normal or even below normal and make it look like the planet is warming. It reminds me of an old Gilligan’s Island episode when they thought the island was sinking because Gilligan was moving the lobster traps(or whatever they were) out into deeper water to try to catch bigger ones. Things aren’t always as they appear. Very tough to prove fudged numbers, since temperatures can vary at locations close to each other. There are a lot of people invested in this.
Do you trust your own judgement or do you fall for every huckster that comes along? The best way to know if you are being conned is simply to look around and see if you see a world that has warmed to any significant extent, if at all. I haven’t, but I am sure cheering for it. I prefer that people of the world all be fed and longer growing season would sure help a lot. I am not insensitive to the poor and starving as those who wish to keep the growing seasons short apparently are. In addition, a lot more people have died because of cold weather than hot.
“It’s not even science any more; it’s anti-science. In every year since 1998, world temperatures have been getting colder, and in 2002, Arctic ice actually increased.” — David Bellamy – Australian botanist who has been involved in some 400 TV productions
“There has been no warming since 1997 and no statistically significant warming since 1995.” — Richard S. Lindzen – MIT Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Sciences
